LULAC Calls Latest Biden Immigration Actions Positive

Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Says Top Experts Needed To Solve Humanitarian Crisis

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) says President Biden’s latest executive actions on immigration unveiled on Tuesday represent another important step forward and urges the Administration to convene the best experts to solve an issue that has lingered far too long.

Domingo Garcia - LULAC National President
"The action taken today by President Biden is what millions of Americans have been waiting for on immigration. This includes creating a task force to reunify families that have been broken up at our border with many children never seeing their parents again. Also, taking a fresh look and seeking a solution to why people are fleeing their homes and walking hundreds of miles to reach our borders. As important is re-thinking the importance of immigration for our country's future instead of seeing immigrants as a burden to the United States. I commend President Biden for advancing this process and LULAC looks forward to working with him to fix an outdated and broken immigration system."

Sindy Benavides - LULAC National Chief Executive Officer
“I know and understand all too well from my own experience what solving this issue will mean to millions of deserving immigrants. I arrived as an undocumented infant from Honduras, a baby in my mother’s arms, and grew up very aware that my status impacted every decision in my life. Thankfully, my life changed when I became legalized through actions taken by President Reagan and this is why reuniting children with their families and truly transforming how we view immigration is so personal to me. America is a land big enough filled with fair-minded men and women whose hearts are crying out for justice on behalf of refugees, asylum seekers, those undocumented spouses in mixed status families and others who have been in limbo for years. It is time we act and provide our nation with the lifeblood of the willing who have arrived here to work and contribute to our economic future.”
