LULAC And Coalition Call For Action On Trump Complicity

Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Joins in Demand for Impeachment Or Removal of President

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and a coalition of other leading civil rights and social justice legacy organizations today issued an historic call to action by Congress to remove President Trump from office following new developments surrounding this week’s attack on the U.S. Capitol:

Domingo Garcia - LULAC National President
“The mob attack on our nation’s Capitol incited by President Trump led to criminal acts of trespass, destruction of federal property, assault and murder. LULAC demands an immediate criminal investigation and arrest of all who committed these crimes while trying to stop the lawful certification of a presidential election. In America, no person should be above the law. When we pledge allegiance to the flag and end with, ‘…liberty and justice for all", that means those involved in acts of insurrection need to be brought to justice too.”

Derrick Johnson, President and CEO, NAACP
“We must not allow President Trump to continue to place our nation in peril. The NAACP calls for President Trump’s impeachment so that he will never again be able to harm our beloved country, and more importantly, its people.”

Marc Morial, National Urban League President & CEO
“Every day that President Trump remains in office is a threat to our national security and domestic tranquility. It could not be clearer that Donald Trump is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. He has constructed an alternate reality of conspiracy theories and wishful thinking, and unleashed a violent mob to enforce it for him. The nation cannot endure another two weeks of his illegal and unhinged efforts to maintain power. Vice President Pence and the Cabinet officers have a duty to invoke Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and Pence must step in as Acting President.”

Frankie Miranda, President and CEO of Hispanic Federation
"The roving bands of marauders laying siege to the People’s House on January 6th, rejoicing in their open contempt of our democratic system, should remain seared into our collective conscience. For the past four years, we have been sounding the alarm about the dangers that Donald J. Trump represents to our democracy and diverse nation. The only way we can make sure that the President’s behavior is never repeated by a future White House occupant is to hold Trump accountable for his repeated deceptions and lies, and the insurrection he incited in the U.S. Capitol. That means Congress should move to impeach him or the Vice President should invoke the 25th amendment to have him removed from office immediately."

Sindy Benavides - LULAC National Chief Executive Officer
“Our leadership calls for President Trump’s immediate removal either through impeachment or invoking of the 25th Amendment. His actions cannot be minimized nor should they be ignored. Justice demands a clear and decisive response to his complicity.”
