LULAC Welcomes Biden Executive Actions On Major Equity Initiatives

Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Calls Social Priorities Fulfillment of America’s Promise

Washington, DC - Sindy Benavides, National Chief Executive Officer of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) today issued the following statement:

“LULAC welcomes wholeheartedly Tuesday’s announcement by Susan Rice, Senior White House Policy Advisor. President Biden’s bold steps will help on multiple fronts and impact millions of disenfranchised men, women and children who have suffered years of neglect. We stand with the Administration in acknowledging the most pressing daily needs our communities are facing and support the specific areas these executive actions promise to address.

Included in Tuesday’s announced initiatives are directing the Department of Housing and Urban Development ‘to take steps necessary to redress racially discriminatory federal housing policies’; ordering the Department of Justice to end its use of private prisons; reaffirming the federal government's ‘commitment to tribal sovereignty and consultation’ and fighting xenophobia against Asian American and Pacific Islanders. LULAC celebrates with each of the groups who will benefit directly from this action because their victory is ours collectively and their advancement moves all of America forward together. LULAC will monitor the rolling out of the specific activities related to each initiative and look for ways to support and uplift these important efforts.”
