LULAC URGES LATINOS TO MARK NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY WITH AN ACT OF EMPOWERMENT

Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Says Our Greatest Civic Voice Is Our Ballot During an Election and Latinos Now Have the Deciding Edge In Many Races

Washington, DC – The League of United Latin American Citizens today issued the following statement on National Voter Registration Day, an observance started in 2012 as a reminder to Americans eligible to vote to do so. Since its launch, 4.7 million voters have registered on this day during the past decade.

"In recent days, I have crisscrossed our nation with a team of other LULAC volunteers in support of our migrant brothers and sisters who are being used as political piñatas at the cost of their suffering and pain. This experience makes it crystal clear in our minds more than ever that voting is the only way to change political policies. This includes decisions affecting immigration, education, access to health care, services to seniors and veterans, equity and equality in the workplace, and inclusion of our LGBTQIA+ community. I urge every Latino who can do so, to register to vote and use their vote this election cycle. If you cannot vote for whatever reason, encourage those in your family or among your friends to do so. We are now the largest, youngest, fastest growing voter block in our country and will be the tipping point vote in critical elections this year. We can discuss, debate, and even disagree on many issues, but one truth is undeniable; voting is the only way to ensure 62-million-plus Latinos are at the table, not what's being served on the table. We matter and our vote is our power."
