LULAC STANDS WITH THE WHITE HOUSE ON BRINGING HOME DEPORTED VETS
Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Urges Passage of HR 7946 That Recognizes the Sacrifice of Deported Undocumented Veterans and the Needs of Their Families
Washington, DC – The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) issued the following statement on a proposed measure up for a vote Tuesday in the U.S. House of Representatives.

"LULAC urges members of Congress to act and bring home our veterans who are being forced to live, often in squalid and dangerous conditions, outside of the United States, the country they defended. They served loyally and paid their debt to society for any mistakes they committed; enduring the added punishment of banishing them from the nation they defended is wrong and must end."

"America owes a debt to its veterans who have placed their lives on the line for the rest of us. Many veterans who are suffering from PTSD spiraled into activities for which they have fully answered. However, we are also a compassionate country that believes in fair treatment for all. Who better than our deported veterans to be shown mercy and bring them back to their families? Now is the time for our lawmakers to right this wrong."

"Noncitizen servicemembers are as important and instrumental to the Military mission and our Nation's defense as those who are U.S. Citizens. Serving on active duty as a Legal Permanent Resident (LPR) and not having enough time to complete the naturalization process while in service left me feeling like a STATELESS Veteran. When the military does not make naturalization part of its mission, it is not honoring the promises made to those who chose to protect and defend our Country. Passing the Veteran Service Recognition Act will hold agencies accountable."
