LULAC Remembers 9/11

Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Honors the Fallen in Terror Attacks

Washington, DC - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) today issued the following statement on the 18th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington as well as those lost aboard a hijacked airliner that crashed in Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001.

Domingo Garcia, National LULAC President
“Today, LULAC joins America as we pause and lower our heads in solemn remembrance of the nearly 3,000 men and women whose lives were lost in acts of hatred 18-years ago. The terrorist attacks of that day were directed at each and every person who believes in freedom of faith and the spirit of liberty --- the very values upon which our nation was founded. Those acts of destruction struck pain in our hearts and we shall always grieve the loss of innocent Americans whose lives were cut short. Also, we will never forget the brave first responders who gave their lives trying to save others. On this day, may we take a moment to stop, close our eyes and say a prayer for each of them, their families and our country. And may we treasure as even more precious the values our Republic holds dear and recommit ourselves to ensuring that nothing or no one ever extinguishes the torch of hope America holds high in the world.”

Sindy Benavides, National LULAC Chief Executive Officer
“On this day, every person in the United States has the opportunity to reflect upon what makes America a beacon of hope even as we honor those whose lives were taken on 9/11 in 2001. Each of the individuals left behind loved ones, aspirations and dreams to be fulfilled. We can and must take strength from that dark day to say we will endure as a nation, triumph as a land of people from many lands and stand united in the spirit of our democracy to never allow any attack, either from outside or from within, to diminish our freedom or our promise as a nation. My soul is stirred every day as I look out upon our Capitol and am quietly reminded that we the people must work together to ensure the legacies of so many are always remembered. They entrusted us to continue the work yet to be done for our time and future generations. May they rest in peace and may God grant us the strength and wisdom to persevere.”
