LULAC Calls Georgia Election A Testament To Democracy

Nation’s Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Says Record Turnout Shows Voters Realized the Stakes

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) issued the following statement late Tuesday night as polls closed in Georgia for an historic runoff election that will determine control of the U.S. Senate:

“This election and the final ratification tomorrow by both houses of Congress of President-elect Joe Biden’s victory November 3rd, should effectively bring this election cycle to a close. Now it is time to get down to doing the business of government which is to serve the people in an equitable manner based upon the principles of our constitution and guaranteed as our civil rights. LULAC is encouraged and inspired that amid a pandemic, the United States accomplished what naysayers wrongly predicted we could not. We came out, campaigned vigorously for the candidate of our choosing, cast our ballots and encouraged others to do the same. That is the lifeblood of democracy. LULAC salutes the more than 159-million voters who stood up and with their ballot said, my vote matters. For indeed it has and will continue to be the strongest tool we have to make change in our nation.”
