LULAC CONGRATULATES TOM LLAMAS ON HISTORIC APPOINTMENT AS NBC NIGHTLY NEWS ANCHOR

Nation's Oldest and Largest Latino Civil Rights Organization Applauds NBC TV for Acknowledging Experience, Talent, and Appeal for a Diverse America

Washington, D.C. – The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) proudly congratulates Tom Llamas on his well-earned appointment as the new anchor of NBC Nightly News, succeeding the respected Lester Holt. Llamas' promotion reflects NBC's recognition of his journalistic excellence, credibility, and ability to connect with a rapidly evolving audience. Holt will now devote his full-time focus to work on Dateline, another signature NBC program.

For decades, Llamas has demonstrated a proven commitment to the highest standards of journalism. From his early career at Telemundo and NBC to his tenure at ABC News and, most recently, as the anchor of Top Story on NBC News Now, he has proven himself as a seasoned journalist with the depth, experience, and integrity required for this esteemed role.

"This is a moment of great significance, not only for Tom Llamas but for all who believe in the power of representation and meritocracy in media," said Roman Palomares, LULAC National President and Chairman of the Board. "NBC's decision is a smart business move, recognizing that the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. population—62 million Latinos—is increasingly influential in media consumption and economic power. Tom has earned this opportunity through hard work, experience, and journalistic excellence, and his appointment ensures that millions of Americans, including young and diverse audiences, will continue to receive trusted, high-quality news."

Llamas' ascension to the anchor desk is pivotal in the media landscape as networks adapt to shifting viewer habits and embrace new audiences. His leadership will maintain NBC's momentum as the network continues its strategic efforts to reach a younger and more diverse demographic.

"As a fellow Miamian, I've had the pleasure of crossing paths with Tom, and I know firsthand the dedication and integrity he brings to his work," said Juan Proaño, LULAC CEO. "This appointment underscores NBC's commitment to a dynamic, forward-looking news operation. Tom is not just an exceptional journalist—he understands the pulse of America's evolving audience and can authentically connect with viewers. His appointment reinforces the importance of experience and credibility in journalism while also opening new doors for storytelling that resonates with today's America."

LULAC applauds NBC News for this well-considered decision and wishes Tom Llamas continued success as he takes on this distinguished role. We look forward to seeing him uphold the tradition of excellence that has defined NBC Nightly News while bringing fresh energy and perspective to one of the most-watched news programs in the country.
