Washington, DC - The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) proudly congratulates Judge Irma Carrillo Ramirez on her confirmation to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. LULAC commends Judge Carrillo Ramirez’ long and distinguished service, recognizing her invaluable contribution to achieving a more diverse and representative judiciary.

"LULAC is extremely proud to affirm the confirmation of Judge Carrillo Ramirez, whose reasoned and respected service has earned her this prestigious position on the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals," says Domingo Garcia, LULAC National President. "In addition, she represents an important new voice that will ensure fairness and balance in what historically has been a very conservative court with a great impact on our community. We look forward to working with Judge Carrillo Ramirez and applaud her Senate confirmation."

Judge Carrillo Ramirez' confirmation comes at a crucial moment, underscoring the need for greater diversity within the judiciary. The bipartisan support she received reflects the recognition of her exceptional qualifications and ability to transcend political divides. The overwhelming 80-12 vote highlights the unity in acknowledging her legal acumen and dedication to justice.

"It is imperative that more Latinos who possess the legal knowledge, experience, and skills are considered for critical judicial appointments," says Garcia. "Our Constitution guarantees equal representation for all individuals whose cases come before it. This will only happen through greater diversity and a broader cross-section of experienced jurists who can serve. LULAC urges our young people interested in the law to consider seeking such an office to serve our communities," adds Garcia.

Born in Brownfield, Texas, Judge Carrillo Ramirez' journey from a family working in the cotton fields to the first Latina in the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is a testament to her resilience and commitment to excellence. Her background as a federal magistrate and her experiences in a law firm and as a federal prosecutor equips her with a unique perspective that will undoubtedly contribute to a more nuanced and balanced judicial approach.

The 5th Circuit, historically known for its conservative rulings, will benefit from Judge Carrillo Ramirez’ impressive intellect and sound judgment. LULAC believes that her appointment marks a positive step towards a more inclusive and representative judiciary, reflecting the rich tapestry of our nation.

As LULAC celebrates Judge Irma Carrillo Ramirez' confirmation, we remain steadfast in advocating for increased diversity within the legal system. We encourage aspiring young individuals, particularly from the Latino community, to pursue careers in law and aspire to serve in critical judicial positions.
